Question: My 87 supra cassette player is a piece of junk!  The lights on some of the buttons don’t work, it randomly decides when it wants to take a tape and many other problems.  Thus, I’m going to replace it with a CD player.  Any recommendations or warnings are appreciated!  Rumor has it the 87 supra radio is a major pain to replace. Other than the radi and incompatible lugs, the car has been great. Thanks in advance!

Answer: Well I’ve owned an 87 Supra and found the stereo was o.k. though some of the lights had burned out. At the time (about 1.5 years ago) I was giving serious consideration to upgrading to one of the new Supra stereos with the CD. They take up the same space but I never found out if the new one is plug compatible with the old. I’ve had a good part of the Supra dash apart when I installed my Radar Detector and I don’t think it would be that difficult to remove the Supra stereo.
