Question: Last week I wrecked my 85 Supra and I know that the insurance co. is going to call it totalled. I’ve put tons of money into this car and am sentimentally attached to it but I’m going to let it go.
There are lots of good parts on the vehicle, just put a bunch into the body too… body is red, new paint.
Bodyshop guy says to let it go w/the insurance company but I’d love to get something out of the parts. Not sure exactly how to go about this but thought you guys might be able to give me some advice.
The rear quarter panel needs replacing and the back end is pulled off the axle but that’s all I can see as far as the damage from this accident goes.
Kills me to loose this car but there is only so long I can keep putting money into it.
Thanks for your help

Answer: It really depends on how much space you have to store wrecked cars and patience you have for the people wanting parts. Wreckers may make up to $3500 in bits and pieces off of your car if it’s still in fairly good shape. However, you’ll deal with lots of people who want to negotiate you for hours over 5 bucks and call you at all hours of the day or night looking for the right part for the wrong car.
If you don’t want the hassle, sell it to the insurance company. If you want to see your baby live on, sell it to someone in your local Supra owners club. Sorry to hear about your loss. Been there, done that. Shed a tear.
