Answer: I own a 1973 mach 1 with a 351 cleveland, I installed a performer manifold w/a holley 3310 750cfm carb and had nothing but surging problems at almost any steady speed, but great under acceleration. I then spoke to the great people at Edelbrock and they spent time asking many questions and suggested a 650 cfm carb and didn’t even just try to push me toward their own product! Because of that I chose the Edelbrock 1405 performance carb, added an electric choke and have been nothing but thrilled w/the drivability and performance! Just a note…don’t let sales people talk you into the model 1406, it comes w/elec choke but is a gas mileage carb not a performance carb. Good luck Pat.
By the way I am ALL FORD THRU & THRU I have owned my mach 1 since January 1975 it was a repo w/5,072 miles on it I also have a 1978 Bronco w/200,000 miles on it & still going strong, and a 1990 F350 crew cab 4×4.
