Jacobs Electronic Ignition

Question: Anyone with experience with this aftermarket unit? I am thinking about installing one on a 1996 Chrysler 318. The purpose is to improve the gas mileage of the vehicle. Jacobs claims 2.5mpg increase. Has anyone seen this sort of gain?
Answer: I doubt you’ll see any change on a brand new vehicle, but it works great on my 1980 Bronco w/302(rebuilt) and aftermarket 4bbl. I installed a Jacobs Omni Pack with their silicone plug wires on my ‘81 Celica. I didn’t notice too much of a mileage increase, but did notice that the car started a little quicker, runs smoother, etc. I think the reason I didn’t notice the increase in mileage was because I tend to be heavy on the gas pedal. I’ve been using a similar (better or not, I don’t know) product : MSD. My ‘67 Camaro SS was getting a healthy 9 – 10 mpg before installing the MSD box, and I get 12 – 13 now. I’ve noticed a smoother idle (I even had to turn the idle down a bit!), and a little better throttle response. More power? If there is any it really isn’t all that much. I also ran an MSD for years with good results. As an interesting note, I hooked up an older scope and it showed the MSD firing 5 times per power stroke verses 1 time on a stock system. The MSD people told me that it’s actually firing 10 times but my scope is only showing 5. Hence the name (Multiple Spark Discharge).
