Advice: ‘94 – ‘96 LT1 big-body GM sedans
filed in Misc Car Questions
Question: so the ‘94 – ‘96 Buick Roadmaster, Cadillac Fleetwood, and Chevrolet Impala SS all had the LT1 motor. Is this a great bulletproof motor that can be used for towing (around 3500 pounds)? Are these cars durable long-term beasts or a repair nightmare?
Any advice would be welcome.
Answer: In addition to being a realiable powerplant the LT1 was the most powerful/best mileage combo V8 North America produced. The LT1 in the Fleetwood is a detuned (260 vs 300 hp) Corvette engine with 330 ft/lb torque. My 96 Fleetwood get about 27 miles per canadian gallon (4.2 litres) on the highway (not towing anything mind you).
