Help with a sensor on a Honda Civic
filed in 2000 Honda Civic
Question: I’ve posted this a couple of days ago to a honda newsgroup, and got a lot of useful input as to the idling problem. Someone suggested I bleed the cooling system; I’ll do it today. However, nobody identified the sensor I think may be part of the problem. So, any ideas?
I have an ‘89 Honda Civic Wagon (fuel-injected) with an unstable idling problem. I think I have traced down the problem to a faulty sensor, but I have no idea what this sensor is; the Haynes manual does not say anything about it. It is located on the intake manifold, on the “tube” going to cylinder #2. I’ve made a rough sketch of the engine with the sensor in question, it can be found at

Please go take a look and help me identify that sensor.
Also, I’ve tried removing that sensor, but I suspect it has not been removed/replaced since the car was made. It is held by two Phillips head screws that are rusted in place. I’ve tapped them genlty with a hammer before trying to remove them, but so far no joy. Any tips on removing those?
Thanks a lot!
Go to www.hondaautomotiveparts.com, go to the ‘honda automotive parts online’ section, enter in the year/model etc, and you will get the 3D drawings the dealers use to find parts…..from a quick glance there, it looks like a TA (air temp) sensor there on cylinder #2. Also it gives their price for each part Probably because you need to bleed your cooling systemto get that air pocket out of your TB, which will fix your problem. Just because the sensor is stuck on there doesn’t mean it isn’t doing it’s job.
Anyway, I’m guessing it’s your intake air temp sensor, but I can’t say for sure. I long since ditched my D16A6 head & intake for D16A1 DOHC ones, and there is no sensor in that location on those engines.
It is a good thing to have, indeed! It must have an itty-bitty-tiny supercharger built into it, because I’m sure not installing a supercharger on a Civic Wagon. What about other cars, though? Does it also sence Dodge Vipers or Lamborgini Diablos, or is it tuned exclusively to TransAMs?..
