Question: My wife has fallen in love with a Honda CX (really basic model). The one thing I can’t stand is the lack of a tachometer. All the other Civic trim lines have one. Does anyone know how hard it would be to replace the gauge panel, and if the CX would likely have the wiring routed for the tachometer? I’ve replaced the gauges in a BMW 325 before, and that was a piece of cake, but have no experience with the Honda. Or, does anyone make an aftermarket set including say oil pressure, volts, and rpm?

You can just get an aftermarket tach but that means it would have to be mounted somewhere else other than the guage cluster. I imagine the wiring is already there to accept a guage cluster from another model. That is how they usually do it, but I’m not 100% sure. Now civic’s have a rediculous aftermarket following. I say you should find some honda newsgroups or a message board or something. Somebody has to know the answer to this question for sure. I’m sure many have even done this modification. Same with my car, a manual 94 geo metro. They don’t offer it for manual transmissions, but they make it STANDARD for automatics, where is the logic in this?! The repair manuals dont even show the wiring for the more basic models.
