Question: I’ve been asked by a friend to help him replace the front discs on his Honda Civic Wagon this weekend. I don’t know much about the car except he says it’s 3 years old. The symptoms he describes sound like bad rotors to me. Since I don’t have a Honda manual, and don’t plan on buying one for this one repair, I was wondering if this is as simple as the jobs I’ve done on my own ‘82 Capri (Mustang) and ‘89 Topaz (Tempo). Specifically, I’m wondering if I’ll need any special tools. (I know I needed a Torx driver for my Topaz.) Also, are there any hidden problems I should watch out for. Any pointers, anyone could pass along or even a brief outline of the job (if warranted) would sure be appreciated. In the mean time, I’ll check out our local library for a Chilton’s or something similar.
Thanks!

Answer: My son (20 yr old – non-Mechanical) did the job with no real problems. The Chilton manual will cover the only possible gotcha, the slotted screw holding the rotor onto the hub. The calipers come off easily and once the screw is removed so do the rotors. Use a hand impact driver and the correct bit(which I belive is a #3 Phillips) to remove the screws holding the rotor to the hub. Otherwise it is an easy job.
