Air Conditioning in Honda Civic
filed in 1994 Honda Civic
Question: Any ideas? Is this “normal” for Honda’s? for the new AC systems? or just a >load of BS? I have a Civic EXA coupe and I have encountered a similar problem. I brought my car to the dealer and had them check it. I think what they did was to adjust the hot air door and the hot air cable. I don’t know if this did the trick but my car seems to cool down faster after these adjustments.
Hope this helps.
Answer: We just bought a ‘94 Honda Civic LXA and in driving it on a long trip in which we were in the car the whole day we noticed that the AC doesn’t work very well. During the afternoon, with the tempture in the high 80’s and the humity high the AC won’t even cool with it set on max with the blower all the way up. The vent tempture seemed to be in the 70’s and it didn’t get any colder. When the Sun went down, or it cooled off it did cool back down.
We took it into the dealer and the checked it and said it was working fine and got down to 57f (inside the shop, in the morning). My 88 Nissian cools faster and in the same conditions would freeze my fingers (well, it gets cold) and it has a black interior.

Misaligned heater-mix & water valve cables is a common problem for hot air thru all the vents in 1994 Accords even when the heater control is in it’s “coldest” setting. This makes the a/c ineffective! It is a few minutes job to adjust these cables. Further, the newer non-CFC A/C in the Accord seems to be less effective than the older CFC system (non-CFC system in 1994 Camrys seems to work better!).
