Question: I was just wondering does anybody know if Hyundi Excel is a good car???  Has anybody heard good/bad stories about it?? I read in a LemonAid Used  Car..it isn’t too good. Any comments would be greatful. I can be  emailed or you can post it on this newsgroup.  Thanks!

Answer: Well… as our President best put it: “That depends on your definition of  GOOD!”

If by “GOOD” you really mean “GOOD job security for a mechanic” then YES…  Excel is a GOOD car.

If by “GOOD” you really mean “GOOD for a repair shop’s profitability” then  YES… Excel is a GOOD car.

If by “GOOD” you really mean “GOOD God o’ mighty!  I can’t believe I bought  this car!!!” then YES… Excel is a GOOD car.

If by “GOOD” your mean “GOOD” then NO…. Excel is a piece of junk.

I have 1990 Excel with 64000 city miles on it and no  problems whatsoever!  The car has never seen a mechanic,  except for a fuel pump replacement at 55K.

I bought it new and took good care of it.  Driven mainly in Las Vegas which has at least  three mothns of 100 degree plus weather!  I use synthetic Mobil 1.

I also have a GM Chevy Corsica V6 (which I bought new)   and the car had the auto transmission replaced three times   before making 50K !

Now, how does that compare to the little Hyundai that made 64000   careless miles, and keeps running perfectly?

How should I compare it to GM quality???

Well, I won’t say anything simply because to a certain degree it   is pure luck, but don’t tell me that all Korean cars are crap,   because they are not!  Some are good, some are not.

It is also a fact that a lot of people who buy cheap Korean cars,   do not take care of them like if they were pricy Honda’s etc.     Some buyers of Hyundai’s etc., are low income people, or poor credit   people, who often economize on proper maintenance which causes more   frequent breakdowns.  Others abuse their cars because they’re cheap.

Sure there are better cars than Hyundai’s but based on my   particular experience with this automaker, I wouldn’t say the   car is bad at all.
