89 Chevy Cav. Z24 Problem

Question: I have a 89 Z24 that I just had to replace the battery, With a >new battery the new car will still not start. It acts like its not >getting any fuel, On Ford mustang’s when the car looses powere, i.e. >new battery, there is a reset switch that needs to be reset for the >fuel pump. Is there something similar in the chevy?????
Answer: GM does not use a reset switch on any vehicle suggest tapping the ecm and see if this makes any difference………………crude but effective diagnosis How about a real answer now. G.M. does not use switches like the Ford, so that is not your problem. If the vehicle cranks well but does not start, the first thing you need to confirm is with the key on, is the check engine light on. This will give you an indication that computer is somewhat alive. Next, check all fuses, for there is a fuel pump fuse. This vehicle is probably a 2.8 PFI with a distributorless ignition. Turn key off, wait 15 sec, and turn ignition on. You should hear the in-tank fuel pump running for a few seconds to pressure the system. If not, confirm by checking fuel pressure- schrader valve in the fuel rail under the hood in the injector-pressure regulator vacinity. If fuel system is not the problem, another possibility is no spark. Pull two spark plug wires off the same coil- 2 at a time, and when you crank engine, you should see spark jumping between the coilpak towers. If not, you have no spark- due to either module problems, power to the module, or computer malfunction. More diagnosis is needed. Hope this helps.
