mustangs….why buy?

Question: The way i see it, Performance Mustangs are like assholes….everybody has one. OK i get it, you have no mechanical skills so you buy a mustang, bolt on headers and get a Flowmaster exhaust, some headlight covers and a Loonytoons sticker with Taz on it and suddenly you are a Lean Mean Racing machine??? Screw that, id rather use my brain and tweak my Acura. Besides what fun is in going in a straight line anyway? The same goes for NASCAR…Go fast, Turn Left? Give me a break, theres no skill in that…
Answer: I thought more people had Accords or Civics. Anyway, the reason people get a mustang is because no matter how much you do to a VTEC motor, there will always be more potential in a Ford 302 V8. Also, most of us don’t have tens of thousand of dollars to throw around to get another hundred or two horespower. For $10k you could easily have an 8 second stang. As for handling, I just don’t think you understand. Mustangs are nice handling cars. From the factory a GT can outhandle most anything (Okay, I know a top of the Line Prelude will beat it, but it also costs as much as a Cobra) until you get into much higher price ranges (Vipers, Ferrarris, Porshes, RX-7’s, 300ZX, 3000GT). And you don’t see many people do a lot of stuff to their motor and leave the suspension the same, it is just as common to see a completely updated suspension as a completely updated motor.
And as far as no mechanical skills, that is just plain wrong. No one who can get anything major upgraded on ANY motor has no mechanical skills. If the mustang is so damn easy to work on and get tuned right who don’t you try to put on some aftermaket Rocker arms sometime and get them adjusted properly. Hell, just try to change the spark plugs.
And the last time I checked NASCAR wasn’t in dying need of more fans so I’m sure they don’t mind your opinions, especialy given your baseless ideas on other things.
