Question: I am sure Pat and Big Al could make much more horse power but it would > not be near as street able. As for the Aluminum block and heads that was > done as much for front end weight and handling.
Answer: Pat built a mild 557 for a friend. Complete Scat rotating assembly. Cast crank version, has Blue Thunder Ford exhaust port heads, .080 over stock block. We’re talking a cheap engine here. Pushed a 3600 pound Torino to 10.23. Pat says the rear gear is too low for the engine. It’s going to be a 9 second car soon. My OT 489 car runs 9.1’s at 153 MPH. That a lot of HP from 489 cubes, but Pat’s 460 inch Camaro runs consistent 9.2’s. My car is about 300 pounds heavier than his. His car has Edelbrock heads! Nothing fancy. It ran high 8’s with good heads. His 514 pushed this car to mid 8’s at 163 MPH. Dynoed at 990 horsepower. One four barrel on a flat Motorsport intake and Motosport heads.
One of you guys can calculate the HP of his Mustang. 460 inch, runs 11.33 at 116 MPH. Weighs 3000 pounds plus my 180. This is a stock everything 460 with 125 K miles. New rings and bearings, swapped in a solid flat tappet cam, roller rocker arms and a Stealth intake. That’s impressive! I tried to slow it down and put an “out of the box” 600 Holley on it and retarded the timing 4 degrees. Ran 11.535 and 11.545 back to back. No jetting or tinkering at all and all these numbers are in Tucson, IE, hot as hell and 3000+ feet.
