Question:

I recently acquired a 79 Ford F150 with a 300 ci straight 6 with a manual transmission.  The transmission jumps out of third gear when I let off on the accelerator–it only jumps out of third gear.
Is this something that can be adjusted or is it a sign of a worn transmission?

Any suggestions?

Answer:

It’s shot, rebuild it. Synchronizers are probablly worn. Rebuild kits are reasonbly priced for the T-18 & T-19’s.
This common on old Fords and I found that it was the gears (inside the tranny) on my 77 . they are not cheap, but worth replacing(IMHO)

Does it do the same thing under hard accelleration ?

I had 2 do the same thing , so your probably better off too fix this one It might be as simple as the linkage needing some tweaking. Or it could be internal???? I would try to adjust the 3-4 or R-3 rod(you didn’t say if it was a 3 or 4 or 5 speed)
