Question:

You all must be kidding,    I personally know of at least two cars…from ‘65  and  ‘75  that EACH went over 400,000 miles…..one on the original engine short block….a ‘72 Pontiac lemans…..,…and a 340 equipped Barracuda….on a rebuilt engine at 65000 miles…for a total over 400,000 on it…… todays cars go that far?  not on your life….no way….too many expensive hard to get parts need replacing on the way….. and the rust gets to the unibody construction…. > and those higher engine operating temps cause too much stress on the internal seals….the automatic trannys are not as durable….

Answer:

Not up north they don’t.  I remember about 1975 when my dad’s ‘75 Charger R/T was blowing blue smoke all over the neighborhood and was rusting to dust at ~120K miles.  None of those older vehicles made it very long without rusting to pieces.   Be reasonable.  Many new cars can go 100K miles before they even need a tune up.   Yeah, kind of like it did to all those ’60s Mopars.  Rust is *much* less of a problem in new vehicles than it was 20 years ago.

Blah, blah, blah…My temp gauge always says 180 F, how is that hotter than in older cars ?  Every vehicle my family has own since 1984 has gone more that 120K miles without needing any engine work.  So much for not being as durable.
