Monte Carlo with manual tranny
filed in 87 Monte Carlo
Question: Can anyone tell me, if there ever was such a thing available, as a Chevy Monte Carlo with manual transmission, either SS or LS? I have only seen one LS that was changed from automatic to manual. this seemed like a right newsgroup to ask, if not, please direct me to where this question can be answered
I think he’s referring to the new monte carlo.. I don’t know the answer to the original post. I just checked Chevy’s website (which you probably could have done yourself) but the Monte only comes with an auto tranny. Of course that doesn’t stop anyone from putting in a manual tranny but that also requires you to cut a hole in the floor pan, cut a hole for the clutch pedal and do some custom plumbing and what not.. I think probably no. Pontiac and Olds had sticks in the big front drivers in about 91 or so. One or two years and very rare.
Try autotrader.com, they keep a “fair” database of options (its not great, but a start). I dont think they go back to the 70’s with that kind of stuff. (it is very frustrating that you cant keyword search on the ads!!) I was referring to the old ones (I should have been more specific). Looks like the MC 87 LS that I saw witha manual was a custom job. Owner was not around so I could not ask him. I used to have an 87 LS. The car was flooded, so I bought it real cheap. It ran quite well actually. I was thinking to change it over to a manual, but I was not able to obtain a New York State title for it, so I finally had to get rid of it.
Can anyone give me a rought estimate on how much it would cost to change 85-87 MC either LS or SS to a munual if I take it to a transmission mechanic?
