Has anyone heard any other details on what will happen with the 2000 Corvettes?

Question:
I test drove a ‘99 C5 at my local dealer this morning. Following the drive he asked if I was interested in purchasing the car. I told him I thought I’d wait until details on the year 2000 Corvette were available since I’d heard rumors of a horsepower increase for 2000 (~30-40 hp). He said they’d just received a bulletin on the 2000 Corvettes and that there was going to be a 600 hp model offered for ~$100K (I assume based on the new race cars). He said otherwise there were no changes scheduled for the base 2000 Corvettes and that I’d be just as well off buying now.
Has anyone else heard this or any other reasonably firm details on what will happen with the 2000 Corvettes?
Also, the dealer is selling for invoice +7%. Is this a reasonable price or should I shop elsewhere? I don’t mind going some distance to pick up a new car at a good price.
Answer:
What else would you expect a Salesman to say? They want you to buy NOW! I heard the 30HP increasse rumor as well and also new standard Rims.
MSRP +7% ???? That’s a ripoff!
Call Tim Glover at Ross Downing http://www.chevy-savings.com
Tim will gladly discount MSRP -$2,000 Yikes that is TOO much money. There was a post here last week or so that referenced a dealership in Atlanta with 27 C5’s on the lot. I ordered mine from Tom Obrien Chevy for lots off the sticker price. Call Tom Obrien (the owner) at 888-430-9781. You can get it delievered anywhere in the US. Also, I have seen posts from Monica Dean about money off. Go to www.dejanews.com and search this newsgroup for ’sticker’ or such, and see what people have recently said. I’ve heard rumors that say the C5 will sport 375 bhp in 2000. I’ve also heard rumors of a 500 bhp 32-valve ZR-1 in the pipeline. I’ll add another that I’ve heard: the real-time damping system will be adapted for the Z51 suspension next year. Of course as of now these are only rumors.
I’ve also been told the racing version of the Corvette will only be sold to confirmed racing teams and will be totally unsuitable for use on the street.
As far as I know, there is no confirmation on any of these items yet, including the restrictions regarding sale of the racing Corvette. I find it hard to believe that in this computer age that we live in…we can’t get any factual information about the upcoming 2000 model year. Surely, Chevy Engineers have computers (I hope?) and occasionaly peruse this group or others like it. Why can’t we get a straight answer on upcoming changes for the 2000 model year? By now they have to be approved and being prepared for rollout. Is this top secret info that if released the “releasor” would have to be killed? The C5 Registry claims to have all kinds of great info…All I can tell from their site is if you join you get to pay too much for a new C5. $1,500 under MSRP!?!? That’s a joke at this point of the game. I can find several dealers that will give me $3,000 off of MSRP. So what’s the scoop? I really don’t want to buy now if a 375HP C5 with new standard rims is on the way…and on that topic does anyone know when we will be able to order a 2000 C5 and when they will begin being produced?
