Answer:
Chevrolet did not offer a 427 in the 69 Camaro SS. The only way you could get a 427 from Chevrolet was either a ZL-1 or a COPO Camaro. The ZL-1 option (aluminum block) is very rare, only 69 built. The COPO used an irom block and I think there may have been around 200 of those built. Either way this was done on a plan stripped down Camaro (sleeper!!!) with no extras. There were aftermarket cars from Chevrolet dealerships such as Yenko and Motion-Baldwin where the dealers bought alot of Camaros and installed there own 427’s along with special paint and other options. If the car your looking at has an original 427 buy it and restore it to original configuration. I’ve personally seen one owner of a mint 69 ZL-1 turn down an offer of $75,000 for his car, and that was several years ago. If the car your looking at is a true SS with a non-original 427 and the car is in very good condition then $13,500 still may not be a bad deal.
