1969 Camaro Fuel Problem – Part 2 – 1. Where is the best spot to place the pump? 2. What is the best pressure setting for the oil pressure safety switch?

Question:
First of all, I would like to thank Gordon for his detailed reply to my 1969 Camaro fuel problem and hope that he will do the same for the following: I agree that the problem is probably a worn eccentric on the camshaft. Cost and my lack of
mechanical experience makes an electric fuel pump look like the way to go. My questions are as follows:
1. Where is the best spot to place the pump. My thoughts are on the inside wall of the front sub frame.
2. What is the best pressure setting for the oil pressure safety switch. I presume this can be located anywhere on the firewall where there is room.
Answer:
I’m not Gordon, but I’ll try to help. You can place your electric fuel pump anywhere you like, the best place is as close to the mechanical pump as possible so there is less re-routing of hoses and fuel lines, just stay away from headers, exhaust manifolds and other sources of extreme heat. Alot of people suggest putting it as close to the tank as possible, but the pump will pump anywhere in the fuel line. I’ve never run a pressure safety switch so I can’t comment on that. You should be running a regulator though. The regulator pressure would be different depending on carb type, but generally it’s under 10 lbs for a street car with a carb, fuel injection is another story. You can run 30lbs in a fuel injected car (some are higher). Keep in mind this info is from way back when I used to build engines for a living, now I’m more into painting and customizing, less grease that way. good luck and I hope I helped.
